In the context of the second summer school, PFAStwin Summer School for using GCxGC-MS for environmental forensics and MicroOxymax respirometer for remediation monitoring, held at UBFC (Belgrade, Serbia) from June 17–21, 2024, Dr. Dubravka Relić, Associate Professor, University of Belgrade – Faculty of Chemistry, gave a lecture on “Risk assessment and organic pollutants” on June 18, 2024. During the presentation, Dr. Relić covered the fundamentals of health risk assessment and the rationale for this method, given that regulations define maximum permissible amounts. Following that, she discussed the main routes and sources of human exposure to PFAS compounds, as well as the disparities in the EU’s risk assessment regulations pertaining to these substances. In addition to the predominant oral route of exposure, there are two more routes that must be carefully considered. In the last segment of the talk, Dr. Relić mentioned the EnvironPollutHealth project and highlighted the publications resulting from their scientific partnership with Snježana Herceg Romanić’s research group.
