On March 14, the AQUATIKA-FRESHWATER AQUARIUM KARLOVAC celebrates the International Day of Rivers, as presented in the television show TV Trend by the Aquarium’s Director, Margarita Maruškić Kulaš and the head of its professional service, Goran Jakšić Ph.D. They also presented the public with the basics of the work packages within EnvironPollutHealth, particularly „Water ecosystem research”, wherein AQUATIKA will take part in field and research work. The subject of polyaromatic hydrocarbons and persistent organic pollutants in river sediment and fish with special emphasis on the Kupa River was discussed in a manner understandable to a wider public. The negative impact of these compounds on human health was also stressed, in relation to the work package “Human biomonitoring”. Due to the actuality of climate change and the application of artificial intelligence in science and technology, the problem of air pollution was further discussed (the “Air quality” work package). Adjusting scientific language to one that children and young people can understand is vital, as it is up to them to use this freshly gained knowledge on making and keeping the world around us beautiful and healthy.
