From October 2 to 3, 2024, the 13th international symposium “Kopački rit past, present, future 2024” was held in Osijek. The program included 79 presentations by scientists, experts in the field, students, and young researchers. The symposium was organized by by the Public Institution “Nature Park Kopački rit”, Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Economics in Osijek, Faculty of Law Osijek, Green Law Clinic, Faculty of Kinesiology Osijek, Department of Biology, Alumni of the Department of Biology and Department of Chemistry – components of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek, Public institution Agency for Management of Protected Natural Values in Osijek-Baranja County, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Medicine, Teaching Institute for Public Health of Osijek-Baranja County and Water Institute “Josip Juraj Strossmayer”.
This year’s symposium was special because of its connection with UNESCO’s five-state cross-border Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube. Alongside the symposium, the 4th meeting of the Supervisory Board of the Biosphere Reserve and the 3rd meeting of the project consortium of 17 partners involved in the LIFE project “Conservation and restoration of forest habitats of floodplains along the Mura, Drava and Danube rivers” (“LIFE RESTORE for MDD”) were held. More than 600 participants took part in the two-day meeting. The Division for Environmental Hygiene participated with poster presentations on topics including ” Particle matter air pollution in the City of Osijek” and ” Seasonal distribution of mass concentrations in particulate matter at National Park Plitvice Lakes”.
